Shanghai, December 7, 2007—Shearman & Sterling has been awarded “Merger & Acquisition Market Lead Legal Advisor of the Year 2007” at the China Venture Capital Annual Forum 2007, in recognition of the team’s outstanding performance and commitment to the sector over the last 12 months.
The award acknowledges the China M&A team’s work on many of the region’s landmark deals this year, highlights of which include advising China Minsheng Bank on its investment in UCBH Holdings, Inc.—the first mainland Chinese bank to successfully make a strategic investment in a US bank; Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. in its participation in Bain Capital Partners LLC’s US$2.2billion acquisition of 3com Corp.; Trust-Mart in its US$1 billion sale to Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.; and China Mobile Communications Corporation in their first M&A investment outside of Greater China.
The forum was organized by Zero2IPO, a leading integrated service provider in the China venture capital and private equity industry, providing financial advisory and information services, media and network services and a venture capital arm aimed at funding and financing China start-up companies. Speakers at the congress included Bain Capital and the Carlyle Group. This was the sixth China Venture Capital Forum and the inaugural Merger & Acquisition Market Lead Legal Advisor award.
