London-based partner Barney Reynolds, head of the firm's Financial Institutions Advisory & Financial Regulatory Group, was quoted by the Financial Times on Saturday, September 4 and Monday, September 6.
In the "States back EU finance overhaul" story dated September 4, Reynolds comments that "The concept agreed in principle [in the supervisory package] is fine. But this is being circumvented through numerous other legislative proposals from Brussels, in which control is being wrested away from national regulators." In the "London fears Brussels reform will shift power" story dated September 6, Reynolds expresses concern at the potential for increased financial supervision through additional financial services legislation, adding "There's an incessant drip of proposals with roles for the European Securities and Markets Authority in them."
