Frankfurt/Main, February 8, 2008—Shearman & Sterling advised the Oerlikon group on the sale of its Blu-ray business to Singulus Technologies AG, a market leader for optical disc production lines.

Besides the Blu-ray production lines, Singulus will acquire all important patents and licenses, as well as the Oerlikon customer base. After a fierce competition regarding the replacement of the DVD format, the most important Hollywood studios have now decided to use the Blu-ray format. With the acquisition, Singulus is now market leader in the Blu-ray business. Oerlikon counts among the world´s most successful industrial high-tech companies focusing on machine and systems engineering. With the sale, Oerlikon further streamlines its portfolio and plans to concentrate on growth areas for the group, such as the solar business.
