Shearman & Sterling represented Sony as part of a consortium that acquired all of Nortel's remaining patents and patent applications in a $4.5 billion transaction. Other members of the winning consortium included Apple, EMC, Ericsson, Microsoft and Research In Motion.
The sale included more than 6,000 patents and patent applications spanning wireless, wireless 4G, data networking, optical, voice, internet, service provider, semiconductors and other patents.
