São Paulo, December 3, 2008—Shearman & Sterling represented Votorantim Novos Negócios Ltda. in the US$290 million sale of its subsidiary, Aly Participações Ltda., to Monsanto Company. Aly Participações operates CanaVialils, the world’s largest private sugarcane breeding company, and Alellyx S.A., an applied genomics company focused on sugarcane. Both companies are based in Brazil.
