Shearman & Sterling is representing Abengoa México, Abener Energía, and GE Energy Finance, as sponsors, in the $460 million financing (to be provided by Banobras and a club of commercial banks) of a 300 MW gas-fired cogeneration plant at the Nuevo Pemex gas processing complex of Mexican state-owned petroleum company Pemex in Tabasco. Called Abengoa Cogeneration Tabasco, this is the first IPP in Mexico outside of the auspices of Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission (Comisión Federal de Electricidad or CFE).

The Shearman & Sterling team is being led by a New York-based Project Development & Finance team including partners Cynthia Urda Kassis and Howard Steinberg and associate Alexandro Padrés, with support from partner Azam Aziz (Asset Management) and associate Ranbir Chowdhary (Finance Group) and visiting attorney Fernando Garrido (Finance Group).
