On December 16, 2010, France's sovereign wealth fund, the Fonds Strategique d'Investissement (FSI), announced that it has entered into exclusive talks with the French state-controlled nuclear engineering firm Areva to acquire its 10.9% stake in the semiconductor group STMicroelectronics N.V. for €695 million. The transaction is subject to approval of relevant competition and regulatory authorities and an information and consultation procedure with the employee representative bodies.
On November 30, 2010, Italy's state-owned group Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (CDP) agreed to transfer to the Italian Treasury its 13.7% stake in STMicroelectronics for €810.9 millon.
In both transactions, STMicroelectronics was advised by Shearman & Sterling with a team led by partner Robert Treuhold (New York/Paris-Capital Markets/Mergers & Acquisitions).
