Shearman & Sterling Expands European Capital Markets Capability: New Partner Monica McConville to Lead English Equity Capital Markets Practice

Shearman & Sterling has announced that highly regarded capital markets partner Monica McConville has joined the firm's London office to lead its English law equity capital markets practice. The move further strengthens Shearman & Sterling's international capital markets capability.

An English-qualified lawyer, McConville was a partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in London and Madrid. She has market-leading experience in cross-border equity capital markets, advising both investment banks and corporate issuers. Over her career, McConville has advised on many large, complex and high-profile equity capital markets transactions.

In making the announcement, London office managing partner Nick Buckworth said, "We're delighted to welcome Monica. Capital markets has been an important part of our work in London since we opened the office here nearly 40 years ago, and it is a key practice in the firm."

Partner Richard Price, who heads the firm's London capital markets practice and is US qualified, added, "With Monica on board we'll be able to significantly bolster our ability to offer clients the high-quality integrated US and UK capital markets capability that increasingly they have been asking us to provide. She will be a very valuable addition to the group."

Shearman & Sterling has experienced teams of capital markets lawyers based in nearly all of its 20 offices worldwide. The firm offers an integrated US and home country law capital markets capability from its offices in London, Paris, Germany and Italy and, since last year, Hong Kong.

"This is a very exciting opportunity for me," McConville says. "Shearman & Sterling has outstanding capital markets capabilities throughout Europe and worldwide. I'm looking forward to leading its English law equity capital markets practice and being part of the global team."

McConville's arrival coincides with that of US capital markets counsel David Dixter, who joins the London office of Shearman & Sterling from Cleary Gottlieb. It also follows the promotion to partner earlier this year of London-based US capital markets lawyer Apostolos Gkoutzinis.
