The international law firm Shearman & Sterling has promoted 10 lawyers to counsel, effective Jan. 1, 2011. The new counsel represent 7 offices and cover numerous practice areas.
In addition, Charles Gittleman, counsel in the firm’s financial institutions regulatory practice area, has been named Of Counsel.

The following lawyers were promoted to counsel:
Coralie Darrigade, a lawyer in the international arbitration practice area in Paris, received an LL.M. from the University of Minnesota in 1995 and a D.E.A. from the University of Paris I in 1992.
Jessica K. Delbaum, a lawyer in the antitrust practice area in New York, received a J.D., cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 2001 and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Columbia University in 1996.
Jesse Kanach, a lawyer in the investment funds practice area in Washington, DC, received a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1999 and a B.A. from the University of Virginia in 1996.
Dana Kromm, a lawyer in the mergers and acquisitions practice area in San Francisco, received a J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law in 2001 and a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1996.
Wayne S. Lee, a lawyer in the mergers and acquisitions practice area in Shanghai, received a Bachelor of Commerce & Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from The University of Melbourne in 1998.
Alexandro M. Padrés, a lawyer in the finance practice area in New York, received an LL.M. from New York University School of Law in 2002 and an LL.B., summa cum laude, from the Instituto Tecnológico Autonómo de México, A.C. (ITAM), Licenciado en Derecho, with honors, in 1996.
Tommaso Tosi, a lawyer in the capital markets and mergers and acquisitions practice areas in Milan, received an LL.M. from the University of Chicago Law School in 2000 and a J.D., summa cum laude, from the Università degli Studi di Parma in 1995.
Brian C. Wheeler, a lawyer in the mergers and acquisitions practice area in Tokyo, received a J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2002 and a B.A., with general honors, from the University of Chicago in 1997.
Philippe Wolanski, a lawyer in the European finance practice area in Paris, received a Doctorat en Droit from the University of Paris XII in 2001, a D.E.A. de Droit des Affaires, magna cum laude, from the University of Paris XII in 1997, and a Maîtrise de Droit des Affaires, magna cum laude, from the University of Paris XII in 1996.
Jennifer Younan, a lawyer in the international arbitration practice area in Paris, received a M.Phil. in International Law from the University of Oxford, Magdalen College in 2003, a B.C.L. from the University of Oxford, Magdalen College, in 2001, and an LL.B. and B. Com. from the University of New South Wales in 1998.
In addition, Charles Gittleman, named Of Counsel in New York, has extensive experience in representing clients in the brokerage and investment advisory business and, in particular, in the formation and continued counseling of U.S. brokers who are affiliated with financial institutions outside the U.S. Mr. Gittleman, who founded Shearman & Sterling’s current broker-dealer regulatory practice in New York, has participated in the formation of numerous brokerage and investment advisor firms and is responsible for the representation of the firm’s underwriting clients under the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority’s corporate financing rules and U.S. state securities laws. He frequently practices before the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. He received an A.B. from Syracuse University and a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School.
