New York, July 18, 2008—Shearman & Sterling represented NBC Universal Inc. in connection with its agreement to sell WTVJ, its owned and operated television station in Miami, Florida, to the Washington Post Company. The transaction is subject to Federal Communications Commission approval and is expected to be completed by the end of 2008. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
NBC Universal is a leading media and entertainment company that owns and operates a portfolio of news and entertainment networks, a motion picture company, television production operations, a television stations group and theme parks. WPO is a diversified education and media company, and through its subsidiary, Post–Newsweek, owns and operates WPLG, the ABC affiliate in Miami, as well as five other television stations throughout the U.S.
