Commenting on the firm’s ranking, Nick Buckworth, head of the Project Development & Finance (PDF) group at Shearman & Sterling, said: “2007 was another remarkable year for the PDF team, especially when you consider the much larger size of many of our competitors. This result very much validates the ‘high end’ focus of the firm’s strategy and the exceptional capabilities of the PDF group. We have a strong outlook for 2008 and expect to remain on an upward trajectory.”
In 2007 the firm was involved in some of the largest projects deals, including Carrix port financing in the US, Marafiq IWPP in Saudi Arabia and Fujian Petrochemicals project in China.
Shearman & Sterling’s PDF group has also received outstanding recognition in 2007, winning “Global Law Firm of the Year 2007” from Project Finance International. The firm was also recognised for its involvement in Project Finance’s “Global Deal of the Year 2007” for Barka II IWPP/Al Rusail IPP and Project Finance International’s “Europe, Middle East and Africa Power Deal of the Year 2007” for Marafiq IWPP.
