Shearman & Sterling Publishes London Office Diversity and Equal Opportunity Statistics
29 Nov 2011

For the first time Shearman & Sterling has published a report on its website showing the social diversity of the members of its London office.

The report includes statistics on gender, age, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, flexible working and social mobility for lawyers and non-lawyers.

Lois Gordon, head of HR for Shearman & Sterling's London office, said, "Publishing these statistics is a positive move towards greater transparency and focus on diversity in our London office. As an international practice with a broad and diverse range of clients, we're pleased that the statistics complement and reflect this in terms of the people who work here.”

As a firm Shearman & Sterling places diversity at the core of its activities. It has a director of global diversity & inclusion who, since 2000, has helped develop and implement global diversity initiatives across the firm's 20 offices.

In 2011 the UK Black Solicitors Network’s Fifth Diversity League Table ranked the firm #2 for being the “Most LGB-Friendly Firm”. Also this year The American Lawyer ranked the firm as one of its elite “A-List" firms” (which includes diversity as one of four determining factors).
