Shearman & Sterling's Vicki Veenker, a member of the firm's Sports Group, served as a panelist alongside Jack Bair, the general counsel of the San Francisco Giants, and Steve Bene, the general counsel of sports video games company Electronic Arts, at the recent Law Foundation of Silicon Valley's General Counsel Roundtable Sessions. Veenker, the former general counsel for Women's Professional Soccer, commented on the increasing prominence of intellectual property issues within the sports industry. She noted that player likeness rights in particular are in a state of transition.
