Global Pro Bono

Shearman & Sterling views pro bono work as integral to the professional and personal development of all of our lawyers.  As part of a global law firm, our lawyers have the opportunity to undertake pro bono matters that connect them to communities worldwide as they provide legal services to those in need.

The range of our pro bono practice transcends legal jurisdictions, cultures and national borders, from assisting an international NGO in preparing an amicus brief for submission to the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights, representing foster children in New York City adoption cases.  The firm also obtains pro bono work through referral from many legal service organizations, such as the Legal Aid, Human Rights First, the ACLU, Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, Lawyers' Alliance for New York and the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law.  Other pro bono projects grow out of the interests that our lawyers wish to pursue.
