Practice Ansgar Simon has been International Tax Counsel with Shearman & Sterling in New York since 2006. He has a broad-based tax practice focusing on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructuring transactions, divestitures (including spin-offs) and joint ventures, with a special emphasis on cross-border transactions. Mr. Simon also regularly advises on the tax aspects of capital market transactions and the taxation of financial products.

- Advising The Dow Chemical Company in the divestiture of its Styron unit to Bain Capital (2010)
- Advised various sovereign wealth funds in connection with investments in the United States
- Advised American Axle in its out-of-court restructuring (2009)
- Advised Daimler AG in connection with the bankruptcy of Chrysler LLC and investment by Fiat in Chrysler Group LLC (2009)
- Advised Aabar Investments PJSC in connection with its joint investment with Daimler AG in Tesla Motors (2009)
- Advised The Dow Chemical Company in its $19 billion joint venture with a subsidiary of the Kuwait Petroleum Company (2008)
- Advised Merrill Lynch in its acquisition by Bank of America (2008)
- Advised DaimlerChrysler AG in its disposition of 80.1% of Chrysler Holding LLC to Cerberus (2007-2008)
- Advised Citigroup in its acquisition of Old Lane Funds (2007)
