Practice Mr. Murdie is head of our UK investment funds practice. He is one of the leading funds lawyers in Europe and Asia, having practised in the funds markets since the 1970s. He has spent almost all of his career focusing on funds. During the 1970s to 1990s he practised in Hong Kong, where he was generally considered to be the leading funds practitioner in that market. Having returned to the UK, he has worked in the European funds markets since 2000. He joined the firm as Of Counsel in 2005.
Mr. Murdie’s experience of funds is extensive. The focus of his practice is on private funds and particularly in the alternative investments sector, such as infrastructure funds, private equity funds, hedge funds and property funds but he also advises in relation to UCITS funds. His work covers not only the structuring and formation of funds but also ongoing advisory work in relation to the operation of funds and the structuring of investments by and in funds. He acts primarily for the sponsors and managers of funds as well as institutional investors in funds.
Having worked in the investment funds area for over 30 years, Mr. Murdie has been engaged in the formation of a wide range of funds as limited partnerships, open- and closed-ended companies, unit trusts and other similar vehicles. Jurisdictions in which they have been formed include Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Delaware, England, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Jersey, Korea, Luxembourg, Mauritius and Taiwan.
Mr. Murdie has been described as “highly regarded” by The Legal 500 and is named as a recommended investment funds lawyer in the PLC Cross-border Investment Funds Handbook 2009.
