New York, September 23, 2008—Shearman & Sterling is representing Ciba AG in its proposed $5.3 billion acquisition by BASF by way of a public takeover offer. The proposed acquisition will allow BASF to strengthen its portfolio and expand its leading position in specialty chemicals with products and services for a variety of customer industries, in particular the plastics and coatings industries, as well as water treatment.
Shearman & Sterling is advising Ciba AG on the merger clearance process in the US and worldwide.
