Shearman & Sterling Represents Ecopetrol in NYSE Registration

New York, September 19, 2008—Shearman & Sterling advised Colombia’s state oil company Ecopetrol in connection with its registration with the US Securities and Exchange Commission for the listing of its American Depository Shares (ADS) represented by American Depository Receipts (ADRs) on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). Each ADS represents 20 shares of Ecopetrol’s common stock. The listing is not in connection with a new offering but will allow US investors to trade ADSs on the NYSE. Trading began on the NYSE on September 18, 2008.

The listing follows Ecopetrol’s US$2.8bn IPO in 2007 in which 10.1% of the company was sold to domestic investors. The Colombian government is authorized to reduce its stake in Ecopetrol to 80%, but no decision to sell has been made.
