Shearman & Sterling Promotes 9 to Counsel
Promotions in 7 Offices and Across Practice Areas

Shearman & Sterling has promoted nine lawyers to counsel, effective Jan. 1, 2010. The new counsel represent seven offices and eight practice groups.

“We are very proud of this group of lawyers,” said Rohan S. Weerasinghe, Shearman & Sterling’s senior partner. “They continue to excel in their work with clients and to demonstrate exceptional technical skills.”

The following lawyers were promoted to counsel:

Paul F. Balaam, a lawyer in the property practice area in London, received an LL.B. (Hons.) and B.Bus. (With Distinction) from Queensland University of Technology in 1998.

Dr. Bodo Bender, a lawyer in the tax practice area in Frankfurt, received a Dr. jur. from Julius- Maximilians University Würzburg in 2007, completed the second State Exam in Würzburg in 2001, and completed the First State Exam at Julius-Maximilians University Würzburg in 1999.

Barbara A. Edwards, a lawyer in the finance practice area in New York, received a J.D. from New York University School of Law in 1994 and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Brooklyn College in 1990.

Jill Frizzley, a lawyer in the bankruptcy and reorganization practice area in New York, received an LL.B. from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 2000 and a B.Sc. (Honours) from the University of Alberta in 1997.

Antonia J. Horrocks, a lawyer in the antitrust practice area in London, received an LL.B. (Hons.) from the University of Canterbury in 2000, a B.A. (Hons.) from Victoria University of Wellington in 1999, and a B.A. from the University of Canterbury in 1996.

Guillaume Isautier, a lawyer in the corporate practice area in Paris, received a Diplome d’Etudes Supérieures Spécialisées from the Université Paris X in 1998 and an LL.M. in taxation from Golden Gate University in 1997.

Brad D. Kern, a lawyer in the capital markets practice area in San Francisco, received a J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1999 and a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley in 1995.

Christopher M. Ryan, a lawyer in the international arbitration practice area in Washington, D.C., received a J.D. (with honors) from The George Washington University National Law Center in 2000, an M.A. from Villanova University in 1993, and a B.A. from Temple University in 1992.

Alan Yeung, a lawyer in the capital markets practice area in Hong Kong, received a J.D. from the University of British Columbia in 1999 and a B.A. from Cornell University in 1996.
