Supporting young people in achieving academic and professional excellence is an imperative at Shearman & Sterling. We work with a series of exceptional schools and nonprofit organizations to build and advance a diverse pipeline for the legal profession. The following is a representative list of some of the programs and organizations the firm aids:

  • 1L Shearman & Sterling/LCLD Scholars Program: This first year law school summer internship program provides 1L students with an outstanding opportunity to gain valuable experience and mentorship by participating in the firm's summer associate program, as well as the ability to participate in the LCLD Summer Workshop.
  • Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO): Providing summer internship opportunities to outstanding college students of color.
  • Legal Outreach: Working with the New York City Board of Education to provide law-related educational programs for junior high school students from underserved communities.
  • Shearman & Sterling NAACP LDF Scholarship: From 1991 to 2008, the firm, in partnership with the NAACP Legal Defense and educational fund, sponsored an average of two scholarships annually for African-American students in their first year of law school.
