Nine Shearman & Sterling Lawyers Recognized In Whos Who Legals 2024 Arbitration Report

Our International Arbitration Practice Group Leader Alex Bevan, partners Emmanuel Jacomy, Jennifer Younan, David Hume, Jesse Sherrett, Edward Taylor and of counsel Henry Weisburg have been featured in Who’s Who Legal’s 2024 Arbitration report. Counsel Elise Edson and Alexander Marcopoulos are also recommended.

Six of the nine lawyers are recommended for the first time by WWL, meaning an increase of over 65% in number of lawyers ranked in the previous report.

Alex Bevan is also ranked as a Thought Leader for Arbitration, complementing his listing as Global Elite Thought Leader in the current WWL Construction report.   • Representation of two international construction contractors in an ICC arbitration in London initiated by a Middle Eastern State-owned company. The dispute concerns the development of a world-class medical facility in the Middle East. The law of the Claimant's State applies. $3.7 billion is at stake.
  • Representing Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Claimant in an ICSID arbitration against the Kingdom of Sweden (ICSID Case No. ARB/22/2). The dispute relates to Sweden’s ban of Huawei’s equipment from 5G infrastructures in Sweden and the claims are brought under the China-Sweden bilateral investment treaty.
  • Representation of a heavy equipment supplier and contractor in relation to an arbitration and a number of delay, disruption, defects and other disputes arising out of two energy construction projects in Africa with claims and counterclaims of over USD 2 billion.
  • Representation of Ukraine in an SCC arbitration brought by Vnesheconombank VEB.RF (SCC Arbitration V2019/088). The dispute relates to sanctions and other measures allegedly targeting Russian banks in Ukraine after 2014. The claims are brought under the Ukraine-Russia bilateral investment treaty.
  • Representation of the Republic of Panama in an ICSID arbitration brought by Omega Engineering et al. (ICSID Case No. ARB/16/42). The dispute relates to infrastructure construction projects. The claims are brought under both the U.S.-Panama bilateral investment treaty and trade promotion agreement.
