Jordan J. Altman

Jordan Altman, partner in the Intellectual Property Transactions Group and Mergers & Acquisitions Group, practices corporate law with an emphasis on structuring, drafting and negotiating agreements that focus on the development, transfer, procurement, commercialization and maintenance of intellectual property and technology. Mr. Altman also counsels clients on intellectual property portfolio development, including public companies, as well as growing technology-driven businesses and start-ups. He has extensive experience working with clients in the pharmaceutical, medical device, chemical, entertainment, sports, automotive, software and financial service sectors.
Prior to joining Shearman & Sterling, Mr. Altman practiced patent and trademark prosecution for pharmaceutical and medical device companies and participated in patent and trade secret litigation. Mr. Altman also examined patent applications for inventions relating to immunological functions at the United States Patent and Trademark Office before obtaining his law degree.

  • General Electric Company on the combination of GE Oil & Gas with Baker Hughes, Inc. to create a $32 billion oilfield technology provider.
  • American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings, Inc. in connection with its $1.6 billion cash and stock acquisition of Metaldyne Performance Group Inc.,
  • Taikang Insurance Group on the establishment of a joint venture with New York-based NorthStar Realty Finance Corp.
  • The Dow Chemical Company in connection with the carve-out sale of its Chlor-Alkali businesses to Olin Corporation; and the disposition of its Calcium Chloride business and its Morton Salt business; and in connection with various divestitures and joint ventures.
  • Boston Scientific Corporation in its acquisition of the urology portfolio of American Medical Systems, Inc. from Endo International plc and in connection with multiple divestitures.
