Lorna Xin Chen


Lorna Chen is Head of Greater China of the firm. Lorna has founded and leads our asset management and investment funds practice in Asia. Lorna's combined experience working in New York and Asia has proven to be invaluable in advising clients in cross border transactions. 

Lorna is one of the most senior international lawyers in Asia who serves clients in the fund formations area, focusing on the structuring, restructuring, formation and operation of alternative investment products, including private equity funds, venture capital funds, real estate funds, hedge funds and funds of funds. Lorna has extensive experience in representing investors in making investments in private funds and co-investment projects around the globe. Lorna is also respected by clients as an expert on regulatory and compliance matters related to investment funds and their managers.

Lorna is active in cross border transactions participated by private capital clients, covering sectors such as asset management, energy, healthcare, TMT and entertainment.

Lorna's clients include major financial institutions such as sovereign wealth funds, banks, development financing institutions, wealth management firms, as well as family offices and startups.

Lorna is a frequent speaker on major conferences such as AVCJ Asia Forum, HKVCA Asia Forum and HKVCA China Forum, on topics such as private equity market trends, private equity fund structuring, co-investments, private equity transactions, and due diligence.  She is also a respected instructor and faculty for various training courses such as HKVCA Master Courses.

Lorna has been rated for consecutive years by various independent industry agencies as leading attorney. Such agencies include Chambers Asia, IFLR1000, Asia Pacific Legal 500 and Asialaw Leading Lawyers. She is also frequently quoted in the financial media in Asia.

Lorna is a member of the Technical Committee of Hong Kong Venture Capital Association. She participates in discussion with the Hong Kong government (including the HKMA, the SFC and the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department) on modifications of laws and regulations for private equity funds in Hong Kong, including Hong Kong limited partnership law and the SFC licensing regime.

Lorna joined the firm’s New York office in 2001 and has worked in the Asset Management Group in New York until she transferred to our Hong Kong office in late 2008. From Asia she continues to serve the firm’s global clients in the asset management area, with a focus on enhancing the firm’s ability to provide asset management services to Asia-based clients or clients with an Asia focus.
