John Inglis


John’s practice primarily focuses on the development and financing of energy and related infrastructure projects worldwide.  John has worked with sponsors, financiers (including multilaterals, export credit agencies and Islamic institutions) and other project participants in a range of energy and natural resource projects including in relation to power generation, metals, petrochemical, refinery, LNG and upstream oil and gas projects.

John has been recognised for a number of years in Chambers and Legal 500 as a leading practitioner in energy projects, and as one of the world’s leading energy and natural resources lawyers in EuromoneyLegal 500 UK 2014 singles him out as “an exceptional project financier who brings gravitas and diplomacy to the most complex negotiations.”

Selected Experience

  • JBIC and the commercial lenders on the development and financing of the US$3.5 billion 2,500MW and 140MIGD Facility D IWPP in Qatar
  • ECAs (including K-EXIM, K-sure, Euler-Hermes, China Exim and Sinosure), MLAs and commercial lenders on the development and financing of a US$5 billion 1,200MW Balkhash coal-fired power project in Kazakhstan
  • Sasol and Electricidade de Mocambique E.P. in connection with the development and financing of a 175MW gas engine power project in Mozambique involving financing provided by IFC, Proparco, DEG and FMO and also involving a MIGA-covered facility provided by ABSA
  • The Lenders in relation to the financing of AES Solar group which owns 50 project companies with solar PV assets being developed and financed or operated in 6 jurisdictions including Spain, Italy, France, Greece and Bulgaria which involved due  diligence of these asset
