Americas Bond Deal of the Year (2014) – Project Finance International

Advised Abengoa Transmisión Sur S.A., Abengoa, S.A, Asa Iberoamérica S.L., and Abengoa Perú S.A. in connection with the purchase and sale of $432 million principal amount of the Abengoa Transmision Sur S.A.’s 6.875% Senior Secured Notes due 2043. The Notes refinanced bank loans incurred by Abengoa Transmisión Sur S.A. to finance the construction of the project and are secured by substantially all of its assets and shares of capital stock.

Advised the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Ltd. as sole lead arranger, sole bookrunner and global coordinator in connection with a $1 billion financing for Sigma Alimentos, S.A. de C.V.'s acquisition, through certain of its Spanish subsidiaries and pursuant to a public tender offer, of the equity interests in Campofrio Food Group, S.A.

Advised International Finance Corporation (IFC), Export Development Canada (EDC), ING Capital LLC, Caterpillar Financial Services Corporation and The Bank of Nova Scotia, as senior lenders, in connection with the $185 million financing, consisting of two tranches, a $160 million facility and a $25 million cost overrun facility, related to the construction and development of the Aurora Gold project, located in Guyana, South America.

Dow Chemical Joint Venture Ranked 'Highly Commended' by 2014 FT Innovative Lawyers Awards
Shearman & Sterling advised Dow Chemical on the joint venture construction and operation of a $20 billion Saudi petrochemical complex. This project was praised as "highly commended" at the Financial Times Innovative Lawyers Awards 2014.

Firm Awarded IFLR’s “Project Finance Deal of the Year” 2012 for Role in Mostorod Refinery Project
Shearman & Sterling was honored as a recipient of IFLR’s “project finance deal of the year” for its role on Africa’s largest-ever project finance deal. The firm advised the project sponsor, Egyptian-listed private equity firm Citadel Capital, and project company Egyptian Refining Company on the US$3.7 billion financing for the redevelopment of the Mostorod refinery.

Power and Infrastructure Work in Middle East, Asia-Pacific Honored at PFI Awards 
Shearman & Sterling won Project Finance International's "Middle East Infrastructure Deal of the Year" for its work on the US$300 million Muharraq wastewater treatment plant project in Bahrain. The deal closed successfully on schedule despite ongoing turbulence in the country and elsewhere in the Middle East. The firm was also awarded "Asia-Pacific Power Deal of the Year" for its involvement in securing the US$1.4 billion 18-year debt facility for the US$1.95 billion AES-VCM Mong Duong Power Co in Vietnam. The deal was the first independent power producer (IPP) in Vietnam to reach financial close since 2003. Mong Duong is the largest private sector power project in the country.

North American Mid-Stream Oil & Gas Deal of the Year 2006
ProjectFinance selected Canaport LNG as its "North American Mid-Stream Oil & Gas Deal of the Year 2006." Shearman & Sterling represented the designated lenders on the project financing of the development of the Canaport LNG regasification facility in Canada, the first new LNG receiving terminal on North America's east coast in over 30 years.

North American Merchant Deal of the Year 2006
ProjectFinance selected NE Energy as its "North American Merchant Deal of the Year 2006." Shearman & Sterling represented Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Barclays and WestLB, as arrangers, in connection with the first and second lien acquisition credit facilities to be used by NE Energy, Inc. in connection with the acquisition of certain power generating assets located in the United States from Northeast Utilities Inc.
