French environmental regulations regarding packaging and packaging waste provide for objectives and rules regarding the quality as well as the quantity of packaging produced. With respect to quality issues, the regulations control the composition of packaging materials, which cannot contain a number of substances hazardous to the environment. In addition, with respect to quantity issues, the amount of new packaging put on the market must be reduced, in order to reduce the quantity of packaging waste down the road.
