Overview of Global Clampdown on Short Selling (v5)

This is an updated version, as of January 16, 2009, of the firm’s recent note on short selling restrictions in key financial jurisdictions. This note describes the restrictions imposed, and exemptions available, in the major states. It takes into account measures adopted in certain places since the publication of the last version of the note on December 10, 2008. This note is likely to comprise our final update on these rules, at least for a while (unless it transpires there is demand for a continuance), because many of the short selling restrictions resulting from the credit crunch are starting to be watered down or revoked.
