Former Merrill Lynch Senior Tax Attorney Joins Shearman & Sterling
8 Apr 2009

Shearman & Sterling has announced that D. Kevin Dolan, formerly a senior vice president and senior tax counsel at Merrill Lynch, has joined the firm. He will be Of Counsel, serving in the Washington, D.C., and New York offices.

“We are delighted to welcome Kevin to our firm,” said partner Michael Shulman, co-leader of Shearman & Sterling’s Global Tax Practice. “There are very few tax attorneys with Kevin’s reputation as a practitioner, government official and corporate executive. He adds many dimensions to what we offer in terms of client service.”

Mr. Dolan joins a Shearman & Sterling broad-based tax practice active in all areas of domestic and international tax planning, counseling and controversy representation.

Before joining Merrill Lynch in March 2000, Mr. Dolan was the head of the Washington tax practice at Weil, Gotshal & Manges. Earlier in his career he served in a high-level position at the Internal Revenue Service and held staff attorney positions at the Treasury Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Mr. Dolan is a co-author of a two-volume tax treatise on international transactions published by Warren, Gorham & Lamont/RIA.

Mr. Dolan earned his JD degree from University of Michigan Law School (1975) and a BA degree from the University of Virginia (1973). He is admitted to U.S. Tax Court and is a member of the District of Columbia and Virginia Bars.
