Practice Harald Selzner is a partner in the Corporate Group of Shearman & Sterling. He is the European Managing Partner of the firm, a member of the Senior Leadership Team of Shearman & Sterling and elected member of the firm's Policy Committee. Before, he was, amongst others, the co-head of the global Mergers & Acquisitions practice group.
Mr. Selzner has extensive experience in domestic and cross-border M&A transactions, corporate restructurings, public takeovers and private equity transactions. He has been recognized and recommended as one of the leading lawyers for mergers and acquisitions in Germany by JUVE, WiWo, Chambers, Legal 500 and Who’s Who Legal.
In his practice, he advised (multinational) clients, such as Allianz, ACP, Axel Springer, Daimler, Droege, E.ON, Federal Government, General Atlantic, Gerling, Heckler & Koch, Investcorp, IPIC, IVG Immobilien, Jil Sander, Novartis, RAG Stiftung, REPower and Sateri, in some of their most significant transactions.
In 2009/2010 Mr. Selzner was a member of the Adam Opel Task Force instituted by the German Federal Government and chaired by Secretary of State Jochen Homann (BMWi).

- Allianz, amongst others, in the foundation of Special Risk Insurance and Reinsurance, in the divestiture of a 40% stake in Beiersdorf, in the (indirect) divestiture of ASL and Disko Group to General Electric
- Allianz Capital Partners, amongst others, in the divestiture of Schmalbach-Lubeca and the acquisition of manroland
- Axel Springer in the (failed) acquisition of ProSiebenSat.1, in the acquisition of a majority stake in, and restructuring of, PIN Group
- Droege Capital, amongst others, in the divestiture of Madaus Pharma to Rottapharm and in connection with post-M&A disputes
- E.ON in the divestiture of Schmalbach-Lubeca, the divestiture of VAW, the divestiture of Gelsenwasser, the divestiture of Ruhrgas Industries, a cross-border asset swap transaction with Statkraft and in respect of E.ON's Hungarian gas storage and trading activities
- General Atlantic in respect of ImmoScout24 and in the acquisition of the AMEDES Group
