Practice Laura Friedrich is a partner in the firm’s Global Asset Management Group, with a concentration in private fund formation, structuring and compliance matters. She is also the firm’s co-hiring partner. Ms. Friedrich has extensive experience working with U.S. and international private equity, venture capital and hedge funds and their sponsors with investments in the United States, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa, India and the Middle East. Ms. Friedrich has led several multi-billion dollar fund raisings, as well as more modest fundraising efforts for middle market, regional and sector-specific funds. In these fund formations, she has negotiated with numerous corporate, public and private pension plan, private family, foundation and endowment, fund of fund, quasi-governmental agency and foreign sovereign investors. She has worked with sponsors in a variety of asset categories, including real estate, mezzanine debt, energy, infrastructure, transportation and media. Ms. Friedrich also advises investors on the purchase of interests in private funds.

- A U.S. sponsor in the structuring and formation of a $4 billion natural resources fund, including its predecessor fund
- A departing management team in its spin-out from Bank of America and formation of an independent private equity firm
- The wealth management arm of a global financial institution in the formation of dedicated private equity feeder funds for private wealth management clients
- A U.S. real estate fund sponsor in the structuring and formation of a U.S. residential property fund
- A U.S. global fund sponsor in the structuring and formation of a private equity fund targeting debt of infrastructure assets located in OECD countries
- An affiliate of a Portuguese financial institution in the restructuring of a venture capital fund to permit investment by U.S. investors
- A Peruvian sponsor in the structuring and formation of a private equity fund to make primarily controlling investments in the securities of Peru-based companies
- Chilean investment banks with respect to U.S. law in the structuring of feeder vehicles to facilitate investment by Chilean pension funds in global private equity funds
- A Brazilian property developer in the structuring of a $400 million joint venture with two sovereign wealth funds to invest in commercial properties in Brazil
- An established U.S. hedge fund sponsor in the restructuring of a seed investment in a private equity team
