Shearman & Sterling’s São Paulo office co-hosted a conference, “Liquidity in a Time of Global Crisis...Examining Cross-Border Alternatives for Raising Funds,” on March 26. Other co-hosts included the Brazilian law firm Pinheiro Neto, Cayman Islands law firm Maples & Calder, and the fiduciary services group Equity Trust.

The conference was divided into three panels: 1) Brazilian fund structures for attracting foreign investment; 2) securitization structures in Brazil and overseas; and 3) bond offerings through offshore platforms. The event was attended by over 160 members of the country’s leading banking, finance, and industrial corporations and was covered by two of the major Brazilian financial news dailies.
