New York partner Doug Bartner, head of the firm’s bankruptcy and reorganization group, was quoted in a Jan. 23 story in The New York Times, titled “As Mergers and Other Work Dry Up, Bankruptcy Becomes Lawyers’ Oasis.” The story looked at the increased level of bankruptcy work in big law firms, as well as current and future staffing plans. Bartner pointed out that Shearman & Sterling was adding “proportionately more junior lawyers to the bankruptcy area than we did before” and involving senior lawyers with some bankruptcy experience in restructuring cases.
