Paul Balaam, counsel in the Property Group, has experience in a broad range of cross-border commercial property transactions, including real estate finance transactions, real estate investment funds, hotel management agreements, joint ventures and acquisitions and dispositions of commercial property.
Experience
- Acted for Eaton Vance Management Inc., Cogswell Realty Group, L.L.C., Barrow Street Real Estate Fund II, L.P. and Fosterlane Management Corporation in joint venture transactions relating to the acquisition of commercial property
- Acted for Tishman Speyer Properties, Shorenstein Company LLC, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Linde Gas Inc. and the Strategic Real Estate Fund in acquisitions, dispositions and refinancings of properties located throughout the United States
- Acted for a US based sponsor in the formation of three Indian real estate funds
- Acted for Shorenstein Company LLC in the establishment of its seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth real estate investment funds
- Acted for Credit Suisse First Boston in the formation of a US$500 million real estate fund targeted at US and European commercial real estate projects
- Acted for Siemens Corporation in its acquisition of the water and wastewater treatment system business of US Filter
- Acted for Citigroup, Deutsche Bank Trust Company Americas, Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, Landesbank Baden-Württemberg, Dekabank Deutsche Girozentrale, Hypo Real Estate Capital Corporation (and its predecessor HypoVereinsbank) and Westdeutsche ImmobilienBank in the financing of mortgage, construction and mezzanine loans
- Acted for Citigroup, Landesbank Baden-Württemberg and Hypo Real Estate Capital Corporation in connection with the restructuring of various loans
- Acted for Royal Bank of Canada, CSFB, Citigroup, Bank of America, N.A. and Morgan Stanley in connection with multi-state secured lending transactions
- Acted for Taj Hotels in connection with the acquisition and financing of two hotels in the United States
- Acted for a Brazilian client in connection with the negotiation of hotel management agreements with Six Senses and Starwood
