See yourself at Shearman & Sterling
Whether you are a second year law student, a qualified associate, a legal assistant or a support professional, we believe that choosing the right law firm takes focus.
Excellence
At Shearman & Sterling, you may find yourself working in London or Hong Kong, helping to close a cross-border merger or collaborating on an international restructuring. We believe there are few places where an associate can gain such wide-ranging, multi-jurisdictional experience. We have offices in the key commercial centres in Europe and across the globe with an extensive international practice representing a broad-based clientele. A rigorous recruiting process ensures that we attract highly accomplished and unique people to the firm. Our core values of excellence, integrity, client focus, teamwork, energy, and diversity are present in everything we do.
Experience
Shearman & Sterling is one of the world's leading international law firms, having been at the forefront of the legal profession since our inception in 1873. Our London office opened in 1972 and is now one of the largest and most reputable US law firms in the City. The firm's early clients included many of the railways, industrial companies, and financial institutions who helped shape global business. Today, with more than 1,000 lawyers worldwide (including around 150 lawyers in London), we advise our clients - leading corporations, financial institutions, governments, state-owned enterprises and technology and biotech companies - on the legal matters they face around the globe.
Expertise
This global practice is built on a tradition of exceptional legal expertise in a diverse and dynamic environment. We owe the success of our practice to the skills, versatility, and commitment of our people. We hire outstanding individuals and offer them a demanding and supportive professional environment within which they can become leaders in their practice areas. Continuing professional development and training programmes help Shearman & Sterling's partners, associates, trainees and legal assistants further develop and refine their skills. Because we place a strong emphasis on professional growth, our partners and senior associates will provide ongoing career support, advice, and guidance to their more junior colleagues.
Flexibility
Where you see yourself now and in the future is important to us. We currently offer our M&A associates the opportunity to rotate to another of the firm's European M&A teams for 3 to 6 months at a time, client secondments, an office transfer policy and alternative career path programmes to meet your needs. Practice group and office assignment requests will also be considered, subject to the firm's business needs.
