New York mergers & acquisitions partner Peter Lyons was quoted in an April 1 story on Reuters titled “Soured Deals a Focus at New Orleans M&A Event.” The story, written from the 21st annual Tulane Corporate Law Institute, examined the current M&A landscape, with a look back at a just-completed quarter that saw a number of deals that failed to close. “You will see a lot of discussion about the lessons learned from these and other deals that either busted or got renegotiated,” said Lyons, a regular attendee at the institute and a panelist on the role of counsel in transactions. Lyons also expressed optimism that deal flow would return, particularly in industries experiencing or about to experience consolidation, such as healthcare, financial services, energy and consumer goods and retail. “You will start to see deals that are premised on substantial cost savings,” Lyons said. “Those will be the ones that come back to market first.”
