Practice Richard Hsu is a technology transactions and intellectual property partner in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group based in the firm’s Silicon Valley (Palo Alto) office. Mr. Hsu advises companies on corporate, licensing and associated business and intellectual property issues. He has extensive experience in structuring and negotiating corporate and technology transactions, including acquisitions, asset purchase, licensing, development and other partnering agreements for the life science, semiconductor, medical device, electronics/software and financial services industries. He also has considerable experience in intellectual property asset management and licensing, having assisted numerous clients to develop and implement strategies to acquire, protect, enforce, license and commercialize various forms of intellectual property.
Before joining Shearman, he was a partner at King & Spalding’s Silicon Valley office in 2011 and co-Managing Partner and Practice Group Leader at Townsend LLP (now Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton) from 2003 until 2010. Prior to joining Townsend, Mr. Hsu was a senior attorney at Venture Law Group (founded by Craig Johnson from Wilson Sonsini), where he represented more than 100 venture-backed startup technology companies. Mr. Hsu was also former General Counsel at Cyrano Sciences, Inc. (acquired by Smiths Detection), a venture-backed company founded by Caltech Nobel Laureate Robert H. Grubbs, where his pivotal management role was featured on television station KWHY and in the Los Angeles Daily Journal.
