Practice
Ms. Bieber is a partner in the firm’s Litigation Group, whose practice primarily involves securities litigation and investigations and accountants’ liability. Ms. Bieber’s recent experience includes almost two years at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission where she was the Senior Legal Advisor to the Chief Accountant. During her time at the SEC, Ms. Bieber consulted on various policy issues affecting the audit and accounting professions, and participated in rulemaking, enforcement proceedings, congressional testimony, and various other activities in the Office of the Chief Accountant, including working with the PCAOB. Ms. Bieber has also completed a six-week rotation at KPMG LLP’s Office of General Counsel and a six-month trial rotation at New York City’s Office of Corporation Counsel in the Manhattan Trial Unit, where she first-chaired four jury trials and selected six juries. Ms. Bieber served as a law clerk to the Honorable Arthur L. Alarcón, United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit from 1996 to 1997, and to the Honorable Allyne R. Ross, United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York from 1995 to 1996.

- Several Swiss banks, a governmental entity, and a financial services firm in connection with their investments in funds invested with Bernard L. Madoff Securities, Inc.
- Fund of funds in connection with the Madoff fraud, including responding to a grand jury subpoena and an SEC inspection
- Sal. Oppenheim jr & Cie. in litigation arising out of agreement to form a private equity fund-of-funds
Securities Litigations, Investigations, and Regulatory Matters for Accounting Firms
- Big Four accounting firms in SEC investigations and related shareholder litigations, including class actions and derivative suits, in matter relating to Xerox Corporation, Adelphia Communications Corporation, Shell Petroleum, Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc., Medaphis Corporation
- Advised Financial Accounting Standards Board on formulation of revenue recognition accounting principles
- Represented Big Four accounting firm in connection with client Foreign Corrupt Practices Act matter
- Advise audit committees on auditor independence issues
- Advised a Big Four accounting firm in connection with an investigation under section 10A of Securities & Exchange Act of 1934, arising from Shell Petroleum’s restatement of its oil reserves
- Obtained dismissal on behalf of Deloitte & Touche LLP of securities class actions brought by shareholders of Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. and of related derivative action alleging improper revenue recognition
- Represented Big Five accounting firms in connection with regulatory oversight of accounting profession
- Represented a Big Five accounting firm in connection with the SEC independence lookback reviews
- Analyzed the effect of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act on behalf of a Big Four accounting firm
- Analyzed rules proposed by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board on behalf of a Big Four accounting firm
