A History of Excellence
Do you see yourself handling complex, fast-paced, and challenging projects?

Shearman & Sterling’s Legal Assistant Program offers exciting opportunities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. We have designed a comprehensive training program that includes extensive instruction regarding practice area-specific skills, as well as educational seminars on a range of topics, from time management to network databases. Ongoing training sessions not only ensure that legal assistants will hone their research, writing, and analytical abilities, but also aid them in assuming greater responsibilities and leadership roles.

Successful applicants must have an outstanding academic record, leadership ability as demonstrated through extracurricular activities or work experience, strong interpersonal and communication abilities, and excellent writing skills. Additionally, they must be well organized and able to manage multiple tasks, have good judgment, and high ethical standards.

Many legal assistants ultimately go on to law school and have the opportunity to return to the firm as associates. The program can also be a springboard to a variety of careers. Some legal assistants enter doctoral programs or business school; others choose to stay at the firm as career legal assistants. The superior training and hands-on experience are relevant to any career path the applicant may eventually choose.
