Do you see yourself in the company of great minds?
For recent college graduates interested in learning about the legal profession or contemplating law school, training as a legal assistant at Shearman & Sterling offers exceptional practical experience in an intellectually and professionally stimulating atmosphere. Each year from January through March, we visit colleges and universities across the country, as well as regional college consortia. We interview diverse candidates, and those hired begin employment during the summer months, when training at the firm begins. We accept resumes for entry-level positions in our New York, Washington, DC, and Bay Area offices. Because of the complexity and variety of Shearman & Sterling’s legal work and practice areas, we ask that candidates be prepared to make a two-year commitment to the firm. Such a time frame enhances our ability to provide legal assistants with thorough training in their chosen area of law.
Although entry-level legal assistants are usually hired in the spring, career candidates are considered throughout the year. Senior legal assistants must have relevant experience, knowledge of one or several practice areas, and meet all other necessary qualifications. Resumes for career changers and other entry-level candidates will be accepted during the year as well. Placement will be based on need and qualifications.
Candidates interested in a position with Shearman & Sterling should send a cover letter and a resume to:
