Practice
Vicki S. Veenker was the founding partner of the firm’s Silicon Valley Intellectual Property Group.
Ms. Veenker has extensive experience in intellectual property-related litigation. She has been lead counsel in diverse patent cases involving technologies ranging from telecommunications to genomics. She also handles trade secret, trademark, and copyright matters. As lead trial counsel in a complex arbitration related to databases, she obtained a unanimous ruling for her client, including from the opposing party’s arbitrator.
Ms. Veenker’s practice includes providing litigation and dispute resolution advice in all areas of IP law and across a broad spectrum of technologies. She frequently serves as a neutral in patent infringement and other intellectual property cases. She mediated the global settlement of multiple patent actions between IBM and ASUSTek.
Ms. Veenker is a member of the firm’s Sports Group, which advised the Women’s Soccer Initiative as it developed the business plan for the launch of Women’s Professional Soccer, where Ms. Veenker served as General Counsel during 2008-2009.
Ms. Veenker has served as an adjunct professor of law on several occasions, teaching various IP-related topics.

- The Laryngeal Mask Company in patent actions involving molding technology for laryngeal mask airway devices and laryngoscopes
- Viacom subsidiary Xfire in a suit involving online gaming
- Genentech executive regarding oncology-related receptors
- Incyte Corporation (formerly Incyte Genomics) in patent actions against Affymetrix, Arcturus Engineering, Gene Logic, Iconix, and Invitrogen involving gene expression methods and databases
- UTStarcom in suits concerning wireless telecommunications
- Becton Dickinson and Company in patent actions against Alaris, Baxter, B. Braun, Critikon, Organon Teknika, and Syntron involving a range of technology, including immunoassays, intravenous catheters, intravenous infusion sites, and blood culture analyzers
- Altera in a patent action opposite AMD

- Providing IP and pre-litigation advice to entities including Stanford University, Columbia University, GLOBALFOUNDRIES, Grass Valley, S.C. Johnson, Applera, GE, Ciphergen, Intel, Lipid Sciences
- Prosecuted Stanford University’s top-grossing patent; the patent is directed to recombinant antibodies and is co-owned by Columbia University
