Navigating Sanctions: The Feds Are Coming - New Focus on Asia

  • Hong Kong

Partner Philip Urofsky (Washington, DC-Litigation), former federal prosecutor, led a roundtable discussion on international economic sanctions that provided comprehensive insights into the different sanctions regimes, trends and patterns in enforcement, particularly the new focus on Asian banks.

Drawing on real case studies, he showed how to navigate through complex sanctions programs and ensure adequate compliance measures are in place. Philip provided insight on more sensitive jurisdictions and the key sanctions. Lorna X. Chen (Hong Kong-Investment Funds), partner and head of Greater China, co-chaired the discussions.

The discussion covered:

  • Convergence and divergence in U.S., EU and other sanctions programs
  • Negotiating sanctions clauses in corporate transactions
  • The long arm of U.S. enforcement
