Theresa Amato Delivers the 2019 Tabor Institute on Legal Ethics Lectures

  • Valparaiso, Indiana

Counsel Theresa Amato (Washington, D.C.) delivered the 2019 Tabor Institute on Legal Ethics Lectures at Valparaiso University Law School on March 28, 2019. Theresa gave her presentation, titled “Minding the Gaps: The Democracy Gap, The Access to Justice Gap, & The Gender Pay Gap,” in two, one-hour CLE-approved lectures to the Bench & Bar and public, and was invited to a faculty colloquium the following day.

The Preamble to the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct concerns in part how “as a public citizen, a lawyer should seek improvement of the law, access to the legal system, the administration of justice and quality of service rendered by the legal profession.” In this context, Theresa described the need for lawyers to recognize and address persistent gaps in the legal landscape and also discussed lessons from a recent consent decree and settlement in an EEOC case involving pay disparities for female law professors at one university.  Theresa plans to publish her talks.
