Shearman & Sterling Wins Two Americas Tax Awards

Shearman & Sterling was awarded “North America Tax Firm of the Year” and “New York Tax Firm of the Year” by the International Tax Review at the recent Americas Tax Awards 2014 in New York.

The annual awards recognize the most innovative tax transactional, structuring, litigation and transfer-pricing work done in North and South America in 2013-2014. The awards are based on submissions by law firms and tax advisory firms, followed by extensive independent research by the International Tax Review that reflects input from a broad spectrum of tax directors, peer reviews and detailed analysis.

Shearman & Sterling was previously recognized as “Americas Banking Tax Firm of the Year, 2012” and “North America M&A Firm of the Year, 2011” by the International Tax Review.

In the past year, the Tax Group played significant roles in several high-profile matters, including SunGard Data Systems’ tax-free split-off of its Availability Services business to a consortium of seven private equity sponsors and Dow Chemical Company’s joint venture with Saudi Aramco to develop a world-scale integrated chemical complex in Saudi Arabia, as well as the Sumner Redstone gift tax litigation in the United States Tax Court.

Shearman & Sterling's Tax Group has long been a recognized leader in the area of taxation, with tax lawyers in France, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States. The Group advises on complex matters, represents clients in tax controversies and plays an integral role in the firm’s global practice.
