Shearman & Sterling Receives Award for Women’s Initiatives

Shearman & Sterling was recognized by the New York Law Journal's Diversity Initiative Project 2015 for the firm’s commitment to creating an atmosphere of empowerment for women lawyers.

The New York Law Journal honors law firms and legal organizations that confronted barriers to attracting, training, retaining or supporting diverse talent, and created realistic initiatives to overcome those obstacles. Award recipients will be featured in a New York Law Journal special section and honored at a dinner on March 30 at the University Club.

“We are pleased that our women’s initiatives have been recognized with this prestigious award,” said Creighton Condon, Shearman & Sterling’s Senior Partner. “We are committed—across the board and at the highest levels—to promoting and retaining women lawyers. As the business community grows more diverse and increasingly global, it is essential to empower women and ensure they are represented at all levels of the firm.”

Doreen Lilienfeld, Deputy Practice Group Leader of the Compensation, Governance & ERISA Group and a leader of the firm's women's initiatives, also remarked, "I am gratified that our hard work in enhancing opportunities for women is being acknowledged by the New York Law Journal. Moreover, I am delighted that these initiatives are helping our women lawyers succeed."

Shearman & Sterling’s women’s initiatives include WISER, the firm’s inclusion network for women that focuses on mentoring and developing associates; the use of social media as a tool to reach women professionals; and partnerships with women’s organizations to promote professional development and raise awareness of women’s issues. The firm’s global women’s committee also plays an important role in supporting and developing the talented women in the firm and enhancing our recruiting efforts around the world.
