Antonia Stolper Receives ‘Outstanding Contribution Award’ at The Chambers Latin America Awards 2015

Shearman & Sterling’s Antonia Stolper, Latin America Regional Managing Partner and member of the firm’s Capital Markets-Americas practice group, was honored at The Chambers Latin America Awards 2015 for her “Outstanding Contribution to the Legal Profession.” This prestigious individual award is given to the lawyer who has had the most significant impact on their market, both in a broad sense and in relation to their particular practice area. The awards dinner took place at The Fontainbleu in Miami on September 25.

At the ceremony, Stolper took the opportunity to celebrate the growth of pro bono initiatives across Latin America, noting that “this regional pro bono movement is showing us all that the legal profession can be strong and independent, committed to access to justice and the rule of law, and that in doing so, can be a force for good in our societies.”

Stolper devotes much of her time to pro bono work, having advised the Climate Bonds Initiative on establishing standards for financing the transition to a low carbon economy. In addition, as Vice-Chair of the Cyrus R. Vance Center of the New York City Bar Association, she promotes pro bono work by private lawyers in Latin America and working with lawyers throughout the region on promoting the status of women in the legal profession.

Having worked in Latin America since 1991, Stolper’s practice focuses on debt and equity securities offerings for regional corporate and sovereign issuers, representing both underwriters and issuers, and on restructuring transactions in Latin America, representing issuers, dealer managers and creditors. In addition, she advises a number of Latin American issuers on their ongoing SEC reporting requirements and corporate governance matters. She recently advised Chilean power company AES Gener on its senior notes offering and the termination of project financing of Nueva Ventanas and the initial purchasers on the initial public offering of Elementia, the Latin American construction materials manufacturer.
