Shearman & Sterling Named a Top Foreign Law Firm in India by India Business Law Journal

Shearman & Sterling was once again recognized as one of the “Top 12 Foreign Law Firms” for India-related work by India Business Law Journal (IBLJ). This is the 10th consecutive year that IBLJ has included the firm in its top ranking. According to IBLJ’s methodology, the top ranking consists of law firms that are routinely engaged to advise on complex and high value India-related transactions as a result of their unrivalled reputation, multidisciplinary practices, size and geographical reach.

IBLJ acknowledged Shearman & Sterling’s “stellar reputation” and “its ability to close tricky, high-stakes transactions” for clients.   The firm also recently received a number of “Deal of the Year 2017” awards from IBLJ in its February 2018 edition for the following landmark deals:

  • Private placement by MakeMyTrip. Advised Morgan Stanley India Company Private Limited as placement agent to MakeMyTrip Limited’s private investment of ordinary shares.
  • Spandana Spoorthy Financial capital raising. Advised Ontario Teacher’s Pension Plan Board, alongside Kedaara Capital Investment Managers Limited and Soros Fund Management LLC, on its investment into Spandana Sphooty Financial Limited, an Indian microfinance lender.

Now in its 12th year, the IBLJ report drew on an analysis of more than 600 law firms that have documented deals and matters with an Indian element in the past 12 months. The results were based on intensive research, deep editorial experience and wide consultation with corporate counsel and Indian law firms.
