Shearman & Sterling is advising Raytheon on its combination with United Technologies in a merger of equals. The combination will create a premier systems provider with advanced technologies to address rapidly growing segments of aerospace and defense.

The merger is expected to be tax-free and close in the first half of 2020, following completion of United Technologies' separation into three independent companies.
