‘Seeking Justice for Marie Colvin’ Short Documentary

Shearman & Sterling just released a short documentary providing a behind-the-scenes look at the lawsuit against the Syrian regime for the assassination of American war correspondent Marie Colvin. The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia found the regime liable, awarding a $303.6 million judgment to Marie’s family earlier this year.

The case, Colvin v. Syria, was filed in 2016 by Marie Colvin’s sister Cat Colvin and her three children, through counsel Scott Gilmore, the team at Shearman & Sterling, and the Center for Justice & Accountability (CJA), who worked on the case pro bono.

The mini-documentary features interviews with Cat Colvin, Scott Gilmore, Shearman & Sterling partners Henry Weisburg, Mark Lanpher and Donna Parisi and associate Daniel Purisch. It provides a brief glimpse into Marie’s work in Syria, the legal team’s arduous efforts to hold the Syrian regime liable for deliberately targeting Marie and other journalists, and their thoughts on the significance of the judgment.
