Shearman & Sterling continues to expand its restructuring and insolvency team with the addition of partner Ian Roberts in Texas.

Ian works on financial restructurings and advising clients on issues that arise in deleveraging a capital structure. He counsels private and public companies on highly leveraged special situations, distressed acquisitions, refinancing transactions, section 363 sales, cross-border restructurings and all manner of insolvency-related corporate finance and governance. He is particularly experienced in related matters in the energy industry. Ian’s arrival follows that of partner Luckey McDowell, who joined the Texas restructuring team on May 1.

“Ian’s arrival further strengthens our growing U.S. and global Restructuring & Insolvency practice. As the second lateral partner hire for the practice, he brings additional support to our Energy group in Texas,” said David Beveridge, Senior Partner at Shearman & Sterling. “His addition is another step in the firm’s growth strategy to continue enhancing our client service.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Ian to the firm. His top-tier restructuring and insolvency expertise will complement our offering of comprehensive restructuring capabilities. This is the latest step in the steady growth of our practice,” added Fred Sosnick, Financial Restructuring & Insolvency partner in New York.

Ian, who joins from Baker Botts, graduated from The University of Texas School of Law in 2006 and has an undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. After graduating from law school, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Hayden Head of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. In 2014-2015, Ian served as in-house counsel for Hewlett Packard Enterprise, focusing on global turnaround initiatives.
