Paul Balaam is counsel in the Real Estate practice.

Paul focuses on a broad range of cross-border commercial property transactions, including real estate finance transactions, real estate investment funds, hotel management agreements, joint ventures and acquisitions and dispositions of commercial property.

Paul represents corporate clients, sovereign wealth funds and financial institutions, including Mubadala Development Company, Wafra Investment Advisory Group, Inc., Shorenstein Properties, Deutsche Bank and Landesbank Baden-Württemberg.

• Shorenstein Properties on the establishment of its seventh to eleventh real estate investment funds.
• Mubadala Development Company with respect to an investment in a joint venture to acquire and redevelop The Park Lane Hotel, a luxury high-rise hotel, overlooking Central Park in Manhattan.
• Wafra Investment Advisory Group, Inc. on the formation of a real estate investment fund targeting multi-family properties.
• A sovereign wealth fund as a lender in a construction mezzanine financing transaction involving the development of 220 Central Park South.
• Mubadala Development Company, Wafra Investment Advisory Group, Inc. and sovereign wealth fund clients in connection with their investments in various joint ventures in the United States.
• Landesbank Baden-Württemberg on a $1.25 billion mortgage loan secured by 1633 Broadway, New York City.
• Deutsche Bank on a $110 million mortgage loan secured by a student housing complex.
• Olayan America in connection with its financing of the former Sony Building located at 550 Madison Avenue in New York City.
• Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation in connection with its long-term leasing of all of the development sites at Brooklyn Bridge Park in New York.
• GTIS Partners as the borrower under various fund subscription credit lines.
• Taj Hotels in connection with the acquisition and financing of two hotels in the United States.
• Iron House Real Estate in the development of a Four Seasons hotel and residences in Sao Paulo, Brazil, including the negotiation of hotel management agreements and joint venture documentation with a private investor.
